Dear Friends and Family,
We hope this letter finds you well! 2024 has started off with lots of excitement and anticipation in the Emmett household. We received the needed medical clearance from our pediatrician for Jackson since his appetite and weight gain have improved since early December. This is a huge answer to prayer- thank you for praying! Travis is enjoying the trade classes (electrical, welding, and residential construction) he is taking to gain/brush up on some skills in preparation for the work he will be doing over in Uganda. Travis is also enjoying serving on the session as a ruling elder and seeking to serve our local church and gain as much elder experience as he can while we are stateside. And the most exciting update, on February 17th, Dawson Ezra Emmett made his arrival! Bonnie and baby are both doing well. We are thankful to the Lord for another precious child to love and raise for His glory. We are adjusting to life as a family of six. So far, the older three have adjusted well to the new addition, and they love their little brother. You can imagine the abundance of snuggles, kisses, and asking to hold the baby.
On the day to day, we’ve been prioritizing enjoying time as a family. The Lord blessed us with a fairly snowy winter this year (Well, for Southeastern PA anyway) which not only made everything outside a ‘winter wonderland,’ but allowed us to enjoy playing out in the snow and a cozy wood stove inside. The Lord has also blessed us with an incredibly caring support network of family, friends, and congregation members. Our church held a sweet baby shower for Dawson, meals have been abundantly provided since his birth, and folks have encouraged/helped us in so many other ways. We’ve even met people for the first time that have told us that they have been praying for us. We are so thankful to God for each one of you and have been reminded of the blessing of the body of Christ through countless acts of kindness.
Now that Dawson is here, we are able to move forward with our preparations for the field. As we look ahead, mid-April is likely our target date to be on the field. Many moving parts have to happen between now and then to make that possible. We are awaiting the necessary paperwork to get Dawson a passport so he can travel internationally. A few doctors appointments will have to happen to get the remainder of necessary vaccinations along with medical clearance for Bonnie and Dawson. We also have lots of (re)packing to do. The anticipation and excitement along with the weight of this move are starting to set in. We are so thankful to have had “extra” time with our family and friends, but now we have a lot of hard goodbyes to do in the upcoming weeks. Some other hard things as we leave will be missing the births of two new nieces/nephews and a brother’s wedding. Along with that grief, we have excitement and joy in what the Lord has called us to. We look forward to joining our team and serving the Lord in a new way.
Thank you for your continued prayers and following along with us.
In Christ,
The Emmett’s
